The project “Improving the public support for reduction of air pollution from individual sources” includes support and assistance to local governments in Serbia, whose projects were selected as part of the contest of the Government of the Republic of Serbia in February 2021 to reduce air pollution from individual heating appliances. The workshop was opened by Bojan Gajić, Energy Manager of the City of Niš, who had the role of facilitator and gave the opportunity to representatives of six local governments to share their experiences, describe obstacles and challenges they faced when it comes to conducting a contest to co-finance measures to reduce air pollution. The workshop began with a review of administrative and procedural issues related to user registration, the interest and response of citizens, the logistical specifics of the infrastructure of individual local governments and alternative options offered to users. Participants described the role of the commission and the criteria for selecting beneficiaries, as well as the selection process through field experiences.
RES Foundation co-organized this workshop along with the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipilaties for representatives of local self-governments. The activities represent a part of the project “Improving the public support for reduction of air pollution from individual sources” which is implemented with the financial support of the Balkan Trust for Democracy, the project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade, and which is implemented by RES Foundation.
