The Government of Albania and the Federal Government of Germany organized Leaders’ Dialogue Event “Implementing the Green Agenda for Economic and Societal Prosperity in the Western Balkans” on 6-7 June 2023 in preparation of the 2023 Berlin Process Summit in Tirana, Albania. It was co-hosted by the Albanian Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Albanian Ministry of Tourism and Environment, and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office.
Programme director of RES Foundation, Aleksandar Macura, participated as the rapporteur at Roundtable 2, “Decarbonizing the Region and Investing in Renewables”, which gathered representatives of Energy Community, German Energy Agency, Transport Community, Civil Society, KfW, as well as Deputy Ministers of Energy.
The aim was to explore how the region can be brought closer to the EU Single Market and how the
pre-conditions can be created for a socially just and economically fair transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy and de-carbonisation that shows the socio-economic chances offered by this far-
reaching transition. The aim is to reach energy security and independency for the Western Balkans and to enable individuals, companies (SMEs) and academia to benefit from the new employment and innovation
opportunities offered by a green economy, as well as to establish a platform for high-level cooperation between government representatives, the private sector and civil society within the framework of the Regional Climate Partnership and will generate conclusions and recommendations for the 2023 Berlin Process Summit in Tirana.
